about
pure.roots was created by two sisters, Amanda and Amy, who have combined their passions for clean eating and plants to create a space where we can exhibit the importance of eating real, whole foods, along with the positive impact of plants in our lives.

Our mission is to empower individuals on their wellness journey. Our integrated cafe and plant shop aims to create a nurturing space where nourishing food meets the soothing presence of plants. We are committed to promoting a holistic well-being, fostering a sense of community, and encouraging a balanced, sustainable lifestyle.
meet amy
Amy is a wife to her husband, Phil, and a mother to two beautiful children, Evelynne (5) and Ledger (3). Amy has been a successful retail manager for over 20 years which has led her to her current role as Director of Customer Care for Raymour and Flanigan. Throughout her multiple leadership roles, Amy has come to realize the most fulfilling part of her career is helping people achieve their goals. While Amy’s fulfilling career supports her family financially, taking care of her plants and living a healthy lifestyle nourishes her soul. That, in part, is what inspired Amy to begin this journey with Amanda. Whether your goal is to further your wellness through nutrition, tackle plant parenthood, or expand your current plant collection - pure.roots has you covered!
Amy has always had a love for plants, but like many, she had struggled in the past to keep those plants alive. That all changed when she and Phil built their home in Hamburg. Amy was determined to master the challenge of plant parenthood. With the encouragement and guidance of a plant enthusiast friend, Christen, plus countless hours of researching on the internet and an endless download of all the plant apps Amy has made her dream a reality. What started as using a couple of plants as part of her décor turned into a passion, leading to over 100 plants of different varieties throughout her home.
As her plant collection grew, Amy not only realized the obvious air quality benefits of plants but also the mental health benefits she gained from seeing her plants growing and thriving under her care. She began propagating her plants and giving them to friends and family and sharing tips and tricks for care. As her passion grew, Amy realized that although the Southtowns have many amazing nurseries, there was a lack of dedicated house plant shops. This was causing the sister duo to have to travel to downtown Buffalo, or further, to fulfill their plant needs. This is where the idea for the sisters to merge their passions to introduce a truly unique concept - a café and plant shop, bringing healthy, nutrient-dense foods and the joy of house plants to their hometown- blossomed.
meet amanda
Amanda has been a hairstylist since 2006 and in 2018, she took a chance and opened her salon, pure. She switched to all organic hair color and products and never looked back. The organic movement became important to her when Amanda was diagnosed with stage 4 breast cancer at the age of 29. She knew it was time to make some changes but didn't know where to start. With the help of family, friends, and a client, who is a naturopath, the focus switched from having cancer to healing.
Through all of the reading and documentaries, everything kept pointing to how important what we put in and on our bodies is and the tremendous effect it has on our overall health. For the first few months, while going through treatment, Amanda cut out all processed food, sugar, alcohol (except for occasions), and adopted a vegan/gluten-free lifestyle. Eventually, due to low protein, she reintroduced organic meat and eggs, but while vegan she realized the lack of options for vegans, vegetarians, and those following a gluten-free lifestyle in the restaurant scene. Although things have improved some, the quality of the ingredients in most vegan or gluten-free items is questionable, usually filled with ingredients that can’t be pronounced. As a lover of travel, Amanda would always seek these types of places out.
During a once and a lifetime trip to Bali with one of her best friends, Lauren, restaurants of this kind were everywhere. Everything was local, fresh, and healthy. Somewhere throughout the trip, Lauren mentioned Amanda should open up a place like this back home, to which Amanda laughed. Unbeknownst to her at the time, the seed had been planted. Ever since she's been back, Amanda has been creating a vision of what she hoped one day would come to fruition. Her knowledge of all things wellness infiltrated those close to her and she continues to educate and advocate where she can. Although originally the doctors claimed it to be treatable, not curable, Amanda said “Oh, I am curing it!” and because of that knowledge, determination, and hard work, she did!
